The Bel Air Legacy: 1954’s Classic Chevrolet Beauty

This 1954 Chevrolet Bel Air is a four-door sedan that was acquired as a project by the seller’s sister approximately 25 years ago and is now owned by his son. The car has been refinished in cream with a metallic green roof over a green cloth and vinyl interior. Power is from a 235ci “Blue Flame” inline-six paired with a column-shifted three-speed manual transmission. This Bel Air is offered by the seller on behalf of his son and daughter-in-law with a clean Oregon title.

The Bel was the high-end Chevrolet sedan for 1954, slotting above the entry-level 150 and the mid-level 210. This example was refinished in cream with a metallic green roof and quarter panel trim during the refurbishment. The bumpers were reportedly rechromed along with some of the other exterior trim, the condition of which can be seen up close in the gallery below.

Steel 15″ wheels wear chrome hubcaps with red centers and are mounted with Firestone wide-whitewall tires. A matching spare is located in the trunk.

The two-tone green interior features cloth and vinyl bench seats with door panels upholstered to match. Green carpeting covers the floors, and equipment includes an AM radio, a glovebox, and ashtrays. Controls consist of a stock green steering wheel with a chrome horn ring and a column shifter. The five-digit odometer shows approximately 4,500 miles, with actual mileage unknown. The fuel gauge is reported to be inoperative.

The 235ci “Blue Flame” inline-six is paired with a three-speed manual transmission. The fuel pump was reportedly replaced in 2018. The car retains a six-volt electrical system, and a new battery was fitted in 2019. The engine is said to be due for service including a tune-up.

The seller points out an oil leak from the differential and notes that the steering feels loose, the exhaust pipe needs to be reattached, the emergency brake is not functioning. Underbody corrosion includes perforation in the spare tire well.
